About Me
I am someone who likes to rant about most everything. I am retired now so I have lots of time to rant. Thus this blog...
A little background info about me...
I was born in Cuba, but grew up in Columbia SC which makes me a Latino Good Ole Southern Boy of sorts. Music has always been at the center of my life and its something that I was born with and is always rattling around in my brain. I play the sax, guitar and bass and like to write music. I had a fairly normal upbringing, had great parents, family and friends. Went to college and got a degree in Computer Science. Married the love of my life (the 2nd time around) and raised a family which is still a work in progress. I had a fairly successful IT career that spanned the evolution of computers from the mainframe, to the PC, to the local area network, followed by the Internet and finally the smartphone. For fun, I wrote code, sailed Hobie Cats, obtained a private pilot license flying planes, play the bass in a classic rock band and write and record music. I also am very interested in science and philosophy and the age old questions of how the universe came to be and why we are here. I am not religious and believe for all its good intentions, it has caused mankind just as much pain and suffering as good. I started life as an anti Communist right wing conservative (got it from my dad) but once I started thinking for myself I became more of a progressive. I do not like hypocrisy, but I recognize that there is hypocrisy in everyone including myself. For example, I am an environmentalist, but I drive a Honda Accord that pollutes the air. My goal is to minimize my own hypocrisy even though I cannot escape it.
Another reason I created this blog...
I have always been someone that conforms. This is a generally a good thing as it helps at work and socially to fit in. Life is a balance between conforming and being yourself. But when you conform you are not being yourself. So if you are reading this its because you chose to come here and you will get my unfiltered thoughts and opinions. Here I am free to be me 100%. On Facebook, being a conformist I cannot totally be myself because I would offend friends in my network. I don't like to offend people, that's just who I am.
Finally, I think leaving a digital legacy after you are gone is important so future generations (mainly future family but also historians for research) know how people felt in the past. Most of what we know from the past comes from written records like diaries. I encourage you to create a blog and write stuff. Your great grandchildren will appreciate it. Or if you don't have children, I am sure future historians will use it. Plus a blog is a good way to vent and get stuff off your chest so you'll feel better.
